What makes Golden Retrievers such good pets?

What makes Golden Retrievers such good pets? Why are they incredibly easy to train? Why does everyone suggest a Golden when you ask what kind of dog you should get? I have always wondered this.|||I personally have a Golden Retriever. She is amazing. She is easy to train, just as her breed standard. The golden retriever is the 4th most intelligent dog, this is why they are so easy to train. Golden Retrievers, when trained right, can be the most loveliest, calm, affectionate dogs. When they are not trained right, they can be one of the most energentic, crazy, out of control dogs. But of course this is the case with every breed, even pitbulls.

For my golden retriever, she has the most unique personality; and for all the other golden's i have seen, they have their own unique personalities. They are loyal and walk right along with you all around the house. They will protect you when they feel you are threatened. They are the ideal family dog.

But Goldens are not for everyone, especially if you are thinking about a puppy. Golden Retrievers stay in their "puppy stage" for about 2-3 years. Highly energetic. This means that when someone comes over to your house, your golden retriever will jump all over that person in excitement. They don't mean to hurt that person, because they feel that they are still puppies. I once had an incident where an elderly woman came over to my house and my dog jumped all over her and she was utterly scared. All my dog did was come up to greet her with licks on the face. Of course this can be trained out of your dog, but it will be especially be hard to. If you feel you can't deal with a hyper dog, think about getting a golden retriever that is about 4 years or more. You will be giving them a home. Puppies will almost always get a home. An elderly dog will most likely not. Sure an elderly dog is not as cute as a puppy, but it will give you the same amount of love, if not more.

Golden Retrievers are amazing pets and this is why people are "crazy for goldens."|||They were bred to be hunting dogs and to obey their owner unquestioningly, as were Labrador Retrievers. This means a well-bred Golden is anxious to please and generally easy to train. They are not good at decision making unlike the herding breeds who make up most of the top dozen easy to train breeds. Contrast this with Beagles who were bred to follow the pack and the lead dog and not necessarily the human. They are a pain in the butt to train.|||my boyfriend and i have two dogs and one of them is a golden retriever. she is such a sweetheart. Goldens have this natural instinct that makes them want to always please you, which i believe makes it easy to train them. And she is so in tune to human emotions, she gets happy when we are happy and she rests her head in your lap when you are sad. They have great personalities all around.|||Well, I don't have a dog myself but if I was getting one I would definitely want a Golden Retriever. This is all thanks to Jake, the best dog in the world. He is my neighbour's dog. He is so placid and gentle and is very careful with young puppies and children. One day I taught him to give me paw when I clap twice and hold out my hand! Not only that but he is also absolutly gorgeous!|||Golden retrievers are the most loyal dog, if you get stuck the golden retriever is always the one to pull you out and also they learn fast and are very easy to train the only problem some one could have with a golden retriever is probably there size.|||There bite will not hurt children. There not incredibly easy to train, I have found training Pitbulls are easier. In my opinion there to energetic for a busy family.|||I can't stand Golden Retrievers....

Too easy, too popular, not a challenge.

Every suggests it cause in general they ARE good for first-time owners. I never suggest one though, but that's me being biased.|||Popularity. That basically wraps it all up.

Any dog given the right care can make a great pet, and there are many breeds much easier to train than a Golden.|||Study breeds 1st then chose a dog. Don't go by others. Do the homework. Each breed has its own issues and needs.|||because every bone in their body is loyal to the core :)|||I don't like them either. WAY too hyper. I honestly don't understand why they're so popular.|||there obedient if trained well
